Twisty Takes Zone Honour

Written on .

Ben Twist has taken out the Zone 12 State Singles Championship for 2020 with a 31-14 defeat of Dylan Skinner (Cabramatta).

The final was tightly contested early on, with both players taking shots off each other early in the match. It was definitely a great display of bowling from both players with Twist keeping his nose in front for the majority of the match. At 19-14, Twist managed to not drop another shot, winning the last 17 ends to take the title 31-14 .

The Championship itself was a held in two separate periods, beginning the 15th August. With the COVID restrictions enforced, the competition resumed at the quarter finals stages on October 10th and the final on the 11th.

For Twist, the road through the championship saw early round victories over Cabramatta opponents J.Courtin 31-17, J.Glennie 31-11 and C. Healey 31-11. Ben won his section with a 31-18 win over former team mate Nathan Wise of Mt Lewis.

Ben Edwards (Mt Lewis) provided stiff competition early in the Semi Final, but Twist proved too strong with a convincing 31-11 victory progressing him into the final.

It is a significant and prestigious achievement to win the Zone 12 Singles and Ben’s dedication to his game, in an especially tough year for the bowling fraternity, has proven to be a great formula for success.

Congratulations to all competitors in the Zone Singles and especially our Saints Champion Ben Twist.
